On May 7 and 8, 2025, the second edition of the Colloquium “Gender, Diversity, and Citizenship” will take place at the University of Évora, organized by the Center for Philosophy and Gender (of the Portuguese Society of Philosophy) and Praxis – Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Culture.
This edition continues the colloquium organized in 2007 under the same title, which resulted in the 2008 publication Gender, Diversity, and Citizenship (ed. Fernanda Henriques). As before, we aim to explore how gender manifests in various areas of public life, namely: public space, migration, ecology, new technologies, and diversity. We will also assess the progress made on issues of diversity and gender equality over the nearly two decades that have passed.
Because women’s experiences and knowledge on these issues continue to be ignored and silenced, this initiative seeks to cultivate space within academia and the public sphere to keep the discussion alive—with our voices—on gender, diversity, and citizenship, in the pursuit of a fairer society.
As part of the event’s program, there will be workshop sessions inviting us to rethink gender norms and the space women occupy in society.
