The University of Beira Interior, located in Covilhã, had the pleasure of hosting, on November 7 and 8, 2018, the International Colloquium – Miguel Real – Literature, Philosophy, Culture. This event inaugurated a Cycle of Homage celebrating the 40 years (1979–2019) of Miguel Real’s literary writing, beginning with the drafting of his first fictional work, O Outro e o Mesmo, published the following year (1980) and immediately awarded the APE/IPLB Revelation and Fiction Prize.

This celebration consisted of several initiatives, including, in addition to the international congress, many other colloquia and conferences, an exhibition, theatrical performances, an artistic documentary, and a panel in an international congress.

Four decades devoted to intense reflection on some of the fundamental traits of Portuguese, European, Lusophone, and global cultures—immortalized in the 79 highlighted titles listed on page 789 (with many more to come!) of outstanding scientific and aesthetic quality, as well as in countless other works in which he participated as preface-writer, interviewee, interviewer, member of scientific committees, critical and literary editor, translator, columnist (notably his biweekly contributions to Jornal de Letras, Artes e Ideias), among many other collaborations—amount to an incalculable number of pages written by Miguel Real that are absolutely indispensable to the Lusophone cultural heritage. These were more than sufficient reasons for this celebration.
